Cool Job of the Week Being a Field Instructor at Adventure Treks is a unique and incredible opportunity—seeing students immersed in nature, fostering a community, and building their confidence and leadership on the trail! On each adventure, the four- to six-person Instructor team works together to create fun, growth-oriented, and community-minded experiences, coordinate all aspects of the trip like managing group dynamics, teaching outdoor skills, maintaining equipment, and handling medical issues, and lead activities like backpacking, rock and ice climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, canoeing, and whitewater kayaking & rafting. Compensation starts at $4,000–$4,200 for the summer plus all-inclusive employment (accommodations, meals, outfitted activities…), travel reimbursements, fall opportunities to work in North Carolina, professional development scholarships, and pro-deal access to hundreds of outdoor brands.

Program in the Spotlight Eastern Sierra Conservation Corps is a leadership development organization focused on creating a more diverse and inclusive outdoor community, with a commitment to providing transformative, immersive experiences for historically underrepresented groups. The Range Crew Program is designed for individuals new to conservation corps work—no prior experience with trail work or backcountry living is required. Members gain hands-on experience in trail work, habitat restoration, and resource management while living with their crew in remote backcountry settings for the entire The WILDlands Technical Crew Program provide hands-on training in trail construction and maintenance, specifically designed for conservation corps alumni aspiring to leadership roles in outdoor and land management. This immersive backcountry program emphasizes both technical skill development and leadership training in challenging, remote environments. Applicants must be 21-30 years old with previous technical trail building, maintenance, and backcountry living experience. Compensation includes a $2,880-$3,200/month stipend (deducting $90/week for food), plus one set of essential gear provided if needed.

Technical crews begin on May 1st (Range crews on May 6th) with work through September 19th, 2025. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis!

Field Educators will use their unique set of skills and knowledge in outdoor adventure, science, art, culture, and food to inspire trekkers in their personal growth and group development.

Now seeking outdoor adventurers, scientists, artists, culturalists, cooks and others who are excited to share their knowledge and inspire young people to connect with the outdoors!

Program in the Spotlight Since 1926, Cottonwood Gulch Expeditions has been a trailblazer, leading expeditions across the stunning landscapes of New Mexico and the Southwest. Seasonal Field Educators collaborate to create and facilitate a place-based educational curriculum tailored to specific destinations and interests of partners as groups travel around the Southwest and to the 540-acre basecamp, with periods of time camping in frontcountry and backcountry settings. Responsibilities include teaching trekkers outdoor skills such as campsite selection and setup, navigation, and fire building, assisting with meal creation and nutrition, managing the packing and organization of gear, and support nightly campfires, games, teambuilding, and staff meetings. Compensation ranges from $1,750-$2,500/month (DOE), plus bunkhouse style housing in Albuquerque and open-air cabins in Thoreau (both with WiFi access), meals, $250 travel stipend if traveling more than 500 miles, and pro deals. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver's license and WFA certification.

Preference will be given to staff able to work multiple seasons: spring (March 17th-May 30th), summer (June 1st-August 10th), and/or fall (August 18th-November 1st), with the possibility of additional work in the winter and beyond. Program in the Spotlight With courses taking place in North Carolina, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Ecuador and beyond, The National Center for Outdoor & Adventure Education (NCOAE) is a values-based outdoor and adventure education provider for people looking to challenge themselves physically and academically — by combining rigorous academics with personal growth and professional development. Field Instructors manage the safety of students during multi-day courses while leading NCOAE’s hands-on, experiential core curriculum that focuses on the educational principles of leadership, risk management, environmental ethics and outdoor skills including kayaking, canoeing, whitewater paddling, backpacking, rock climbing, backcountry camping, map & compass navigation, and more. Starting pay ranges from $80-$145/day (DOE) with opportunities for advancement. Perks include staff housing, food pantry, travel reimbursements, and industry discounts.

Cool Job of the Week Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness firmly believes in the therapeutic power of the wilderness, teaching students how to thrive in life, and live in accordance with their values. Staff work with adolescent students (ages 13-18) and young adults (ages 18-30) to provide guidance and support around a variety of issues, including addiction, trauma, and relational problems. The role of Field Instructor is tough to describe without experiencing it—it's a unique blend of wilderness living, primitive skills, and psychology. Candidates don't necessarily need advanced skills in outdoor education or psychology to be considered, but a love of the outdoors, an empowered attitude, an open mind, and an appreciation of personal growth are all prerequisites. Pay starts at $150/day and moves upwards with staff development to $215/day, plus plentiful benefits.
